Kuna High School Reviews

A wonderful school. It has amazing teachers!

I am not impressed with the contact with the teachers. I have to email them and then only a few respond.

I am a gradute of KHS (way back) and I now have one son who is a freshman and one daughter in 7th grade. I am not pleased with the lack of contact with teachers. I have, on many occations, requested regular contact, by email, from all my son's teachers and have yet to have even one of them contact me without being contacted first. I do not like the progress notes without some follow up. I want to know when my kids are not turning in assignments or are having trouble in specific areas as I've always emphasized to the teachers that his parents are there to help out. Paying extra, plus gate charges to sports is not acceptable either.

I currently have a child at this school and two that have graduated. I am not impressed with the fact that we now have to pay for sports because of the budget cuts. I am not impressed with the new way they are handling their tardy policy. The school is two levels and some kids have their lockers on the total opposite end of the school from their classes and can't always make it in the time needed. The educators are very good and have done well to educate my children. I do believe the school needs to take a higher stand with their moral values.

The new high school is a beautiful building and that seems to be more of a focus than the quality of teaching. Many of the teachers need to be more willing to keep in regular contact with the parents via e-mail for example. In the four years that my son has been there, only one teacher has kept regular contact with me on a weekly basis with a simple e-mail saying, 'all assignments are in' or 'these assignments are missing' or 'test coming up, chapter?' or 'project or paper due...' The teachers wait until report cards or progress reports (rarely seen by many parents) then whine about the student not doing his/her work. Also, very few interresting extracurricular classes of interest to students unless one is interrested in FFA.

I have 2 daughters that are juniors this year, they have been at Kuna High since 9th grade. The Kuna area has grown 30% since they started high school, the schools in the area have had to deal with increased students and the building of new schools to accomidate the community. A Kuna High School was built back in 2001-2002 summer and the new school is very impressive. I believe they are having issues regarding the amount of teachers retained and have also exceeded the budget granted them. This 2003 school year has shown that it will be costly to the students to participate in school activities as Kuna High's budget was cut and they took the money from the sports and after school programs. The dance team has been totally cut from the program. I hope that the donations and boosters are able to raise enough money to help this cause. The elective classes do not compare with the other High Schools in the area, and hopefully, since this is a new endevor with the added students and new scheduling, they will in the future find the funding and the need to be competitive with the other high schools. Kuna has alot of growing yet to do.. but it seems to be on its way..
